tune of the week archive - 2006 (q2)

Bent - Always [Ashley Beedle's Mahavishnu Remix]
as on 24th June, 2006

Very contemporary yet very minimal, this track just takes you away from reality.
This is what deep house should sound like.

Ferry Corsten - Beautiful
as on 17th June, 2006

A vocal track in a more up-tempo, danceable fashion; vocals by Debra Andrew. With the typical electro-filled trance sound, fueled onwards by Debra's distorted vocal lines, a meaty bassline and bits of tiny backing melody. The full vocals during the breakdown are of the spoken form, rapidly interchanging lines to create a tense, fast emotional feel. Kickass material.

Chicane - No Ordinary Morning
as on 13th May, 2006

A very downtempo & ambient track playing for a total of 5:10 m:s, the vocals are sensational and reflect the feeling of disbelief that the relationship ended, without warning. Beautiful.

Paul Van Dyk featuring Wayne Jackson - The Other Side
as on 22nd April, 2006

Paul Van Dyk wrote this song in response to the devastating Tsunami which hit South East Asia in December last year and killed over 1,50,000 people. He felt it was important to recognize that so many people were instantly affected by death and the loss of loved ones. This track expresses the feeling of still being with the person who has passed away in one's thoughts and expresses the hope of seeing the person again on "The Other Side".
Paul Van Dyk is indeed a phenomenon.

Super8 + DJ Tab - Helsinki Scorchin' [Original Mix]
as on 15th April, 2006

Super8 & DJ Tab's "Helsinki Scorchin'" is arguably the biggest instrumental trancer of the year so far. It's not often that you get a 1000+ crowd singing along to an instrumental but that's exactly what happened at the recent Anjuna night in London. Moreover, this track has been featured on 15 compilations to date, including the latest from Tiësto, Above & Beyond and Armin!

Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms [Original Club Mix]
as on 8th April, 2006

The track is a cover of a Billie Ray Martin song, but done so well that it deserved to be posted out here. Karen's voice is so soft & dreamy and compliments the wicked prog effects in the track. Perfect for a chill pill masher on the dance floor. If you still haven't heard it, it's time to wake up & head to the clubs where you're sure to find the DJ testing it on the sound system.

* The tunes listed above may not always be the latest ones.
It is noted that a lot of them are classic revivals.
